Characteristic
The distinctive DO Catalunya in a bottle is a guarantee of quality for the consumer. Currently DO Catalunya brings together most of the Catalan wine producing municipalities.
Its objective is to gradually improve the quality of wines and vineyards, promoting research and the application of the latest technologies. Consolidate, create, and innovate are basic guidelines that explain the Denomination of Origin Catalonia.
All DO Catalunya wines can either seek the maximum expression of the raw material – the grape, by fermentation of most stainless steel tanks and under strict temperature control – or present the characteristic bouquet from contact with oak wood, which, in turn, enriches them with greater complexity.
2.000 years elaborating wines in Catalonia guarantees the experience, the excellence, and the variety of Catalunya Designation of Origin. It is located to the north-east of Spain, delimited by Pirineos and the Mediterranean Sea, along 9.000 hectares.
Do Catalunya has 42,985 ha. of wine surface distributed between 426 municipal areas of Catalonia, in which the vineyard has been traditionally cultivated, becoming a characteristic and inherent element ofits landscapes and culture. The altitude, climate, rainfall, and landscape vary because it superimposes to other Designation of Origins as Montsant, Priorat, Terra Alta or Tarragona.
The winemaking tradition in Catalonia is older than its own history, and wine is an indispensable element of Catalan and Mediterranean culture. Phoenicians and Romans introduced the cultivation of the vineyard and, since then, wine has been part of our daily life, our diet, our culture, and our moments of celebration. Catalonia has exceptional natural conditions: a great diversity of soils, microclimates and orographic conditions, and a geographical situation that has allowed it to achieve variety, quality, and the continuity of its oenological potential.
ELABORATION PROCESS
Wine elaborated from a selection of Tempranillo and Grenache grape varieties. The grapes are collected manually from our vineyards. After a cold – maceration, each variety is fermented separately on their own skins, in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, to preserve the fruit aromas from its varieties.
